Stuff that caught my attention this week
Hello, folks.
Last weekend we went to Lisbon! The first day we had a planned itinerary, but for the rest of the days we decided to walk around the city without a specific direction, allowing ourselves to be carried away by chance. This was how we found Coppola’s pizzas and Discolecço, a local second-hand vinyl shop.
This week, I have been thinking about what should be the best way to create a color palette that is WCAG-compliant and at the same time the best for users. Let me explain, currently WCAG 2 is the standard that we must meet to comply with the criteria that, for example, the EAA (The European Accessibility Act) requires. Now, this standard, when calculating color contrast, does so in a way that does not consider how humans perceive (for real) color contrast. This is something that WCAG 3 fixes, but this standard is still in draft phase. So, this situation puts us in a position where we must either prioritize WCAG 2 and comply with the EAA, or adopt WCAG 3 to prioritize the real perception of our users. What would you do? Shouldn't we be prioritizing users at all costs?
That's all for now.
Have a lovely week!
